Provide YOU and YOUR STUDENTS with a fun and powerful way to an elite memory.
What is Teach Memory.org?
In nutshell, Teach Memory is a site designed to help educators train their students’ memories using time-tested, peer-peer reviewed techniques.
Prior to the written language, centuries of history had to be maintained using nothing more than the human brain. Many of these techniques date back hundreds to thousands of years.
Learn how the Ancient Greeks were able to remember math, science, and rhetorical speeches without writing down a letter!
The possibilities are endless.
And FUN!
Plus, the EDUCATOR gets to learn the techniques first, which means if you are reading this, you can begin using these techniques today!
Is this site a memory course?
Sort of. The techniques discussed on this site have been taught by mnemonists for a very long time. In fact, ALL memory athletes competing today, most of whom have no greater working memory than any of us do, have learned these techniques to perform seemingly unbelievable feats of memory.
Many of these memory athletes have taken a specific course taught by those who are either memory athletes themselves or have have distinguished themselves in all areas of mnemonic technique and contexts.
Although this site uses the same techniques, the specific focus of Teach Memory is getting these techniques back in the classroom where they once thrived and will again.
Can you learn how to perform like a memory athlete by learning the techniques on this site?
YES, and if you are and educator, this may be the most beneficial way to start learning these techniques, as you will be able to directly employ them in the context of a classroom where you can use them to teach key academic material.
If your desire is to be a memory athlete sooner than later, and you are not an\ educator, I would DEFINITELY RECOMMEND going elsewhere.
Dominick O’Briens, Dr. Anthony Metivier, Ron White, and Nelson Dellis are all great places to start. They will teach you a myriad of ways to employ the techniques to suit your needs.
Why are these techniques not in schools everywhere?
Great question. Without discussing the finer points of this argument and going into a substantive historical account, I think it suffices to answer it this way:
IT ISN’T BECAUSE THEY DON’T WORK.
These techniques were widely used in schools once upon a time, and they are making a resurgence.
As you grow deeper into learning these techniques, you will quickly and continually appreciate the effectiveness of these techniques.
Teach Memory is not selling anything. Try for yourself. We are so confident in it’s efficacy, that we created a website, for free. in the hopes of affecting real change in education.
How difficult and time consuming are these techniques?
They are NOT difficult, and YES, they will take some time. It is a skill like any other, and the more effort you put in, the greater the reward.
But here’s the good news: they are way easier than trying to memorize and retain information by traditional means that the students do everyday, which are largely rote memory techniques.
As educators, we share what the students need to learn, but how often do we show them HOW to learn. How many different techniques do we teach?
As an educator, you are likely familiar with her book, Learning How to Learn. If you are not, she does a wonderful job of breaking this down for adults and teenagers alike, often incorporating the same science taught through the techniques on this site.
You and your students will spend much less time memorizing and will retain the information for much longer. This is backed up by science, and we at Teach Memory have seen the success students are having in the classrooms around the world.
We would not create this site if we did not KNOW this is a vastly more effective, and kid-friendly way to teach and learn information that you want students to remember.
This site will ultimately have a space for educators to access the many resources and science-backed data. Until that point, it is recommended that you visit the site The Art of Memory. This site is a great place to train as well research any questions you might have.
How to Use This Site: Main Menu
Tool Box: his contains the tools that you will use to “build” lessons. As stated above, there is no difference between these tools and the ones used by any other mnemonist. The difference is that Teach Memory focuses the tools for use in the classroom.
Lessons: Each Lesson has a primary focus to learn a specific task. Each lesson uses one or more of the tools in the Tool Kit, and these tools are listed at the top of the lesson, It is NOT recommended to teach the lesson without first learning the tools and teaching them to your students.
Although each lesson has a primary focus, you will soon find that you can start using the tools in new and interesting ways to teach pretty much whatever you want.
Power Ups: This area of the site provides best practice methods to ensuring you and your students are learning in the most efficient manner possible. Topics such as sensory details and recall techniques will most definitely speed up the process!
Contacts: Anything else you need to contact us about? Once you get the FREE notetaking strategy, we would love to hear from you! Any respectful questions and feedback are highly appreciated!
Now What?
There will be additional menu items as the sight grows. Please contact us and let us know if there is information that you would like to see on this site.
It is recommended that you go the post below to ensure you get off to a smooth start, but it is most certainly not necessary.
Thank you for your time!
